Huggins and Scott’s “Event of the Year” Auction Set to Begin July 21st

Huggins and Scott’s third auction of 2017, the “Event of the Year” will open for bidding on Friday July 21st and close on Thursday night August 3rd with the 30-minute rule beginning at 11:00pm ET.

An incredible assortment is offered with tremendous investment-quality pieces from all sports and the historical and political worlds. Vintage baseball card collectors will enjoy an abundance of pre-war rarities including professionally graded and raw examples of cards from a variety of designations, including Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Christy Mathewson, Cy Young, and more; a number of graded and ungraded tobacco and candy cards offered as singles and in lots, and much more. Highlights include: a newly discovered 1887 Kalamazoo Bats Pittsburgh Team Card (PSA 4) – highest graded and one of only four known examples; a remarkable 1888 New York Giants Joseph Hall Imperial Cabinet Team Photograph – the finest of three known examples; a T206 Sherry Magie error card (PSA 2); an attractive T206 Ty Cobb (Bat off) PSA 5; and many more.

The post-war collection is substantial as well with an unusually large number of singles, lots, complete and near sets from 1948 to present. Highlights include: The Bill Wilen Mickey Mantle collection featuring about 97% of all Mantle cards ever produced with a signed 1951 Bowman (Auto PSA 9), 1952 Topps, Tip Top Bread, Star-Cal Decals, Briggs, Stahl-Meyers, Venezuela’s, Punch-Outs (PSA 4.5 – highest graded), and dozens more. A 1951 Bowman Mantle RC PSA 5; a complete 1954 Red Heart set – all PSA 8 (#15 on registry); 1959 Topps complete set average grade 7.9 (#27 on registry); a complete 1966 Topps set – all PSA 8 (sold in 8 lots); one of the most impressive collections of uncut sheets from 1941 Play Ball, 1948 Bowman, 1949 Bowman, 1951 Bowman, 1952 Topps (with Willie Mays), 1952 Bowman (with Willie Mays), 1955 Bowman (with Mantle), 1957 Topps and many more; an extensive modern insert collection with multiple certified autographed card lots, short prints, 1 of 1s, signed relic cards, dual and triple signed cards and much more. As always, we also present a plethora of wonderful “shoebox” collections (always a crowd favorite).

A very special Philadelphia Phillies collection consigned by Larry Haines features a tremendous array of items including: the very first Phillies game score sheet scored and signed by Harry Wright; the only known example of a 1940s Philadelphia Blue Jays game used jersey (Andy Seminick); an exceptional 1915 World Series full ticket (PSA 2); rare 1910s Phillies “Daisies” pennant; a tough 1915 NL Champions Pat Moran photo pin/ribbon; and loads of other scarce and remarkable Phillies related items.

We are pleased to offer a number of neat memorabilia items including a 1902 Cincinnati Reds Sterling Silver Pass; an amazing 1916-1926 World Series Photo Album with 277 original snapshots with Ruth, Gehrig, Joe Jackson and 1919 World Series shots; a 1927 Ty Cobb Type I Charles Conlon classic swinging image; a remarkable collection of 1950s HOFers Contact Proof Original Photos used for cards including 1956 Topps Mickey Mantle, 1954 Topps Willie Mays, 1955 Topps Hank Aaron, 1958 Topps Mays/Snider (BGS Authenticated) and lots more.

This auction has a large number of autographed baseball items highlighted by one of the largest sweet spot Mel Ott single-signed baseballs extant; a wonderful 1924 Washington Senators Team-Signed World Championship baseball; one of only four known 1939-43 Babe Ruth signed sepia Hall of Fame postcard (PSA/DNA); an incredible collection of over 100 different single-signed full name variation baseballs including Mickey Charles Mantle, Theodore Samuel Williams, Willie Howard Mays Jr. James N. Brown, Walter Jerry Payton and 100 more; a rare T206 Sam Crawford signed card; letters signed by Walter Johnson, Cum Posey and Alex Pompez; Stan Musial’s 1951 Players contract and plenty more treasures.
