The Robert Franklin Collection Highlights Huggins and Scott’s April 2014 Auction
Huggins and Scott’s second Masterpiece Auction of 2014 began on Monday March 31st with the bidding closing on Thursday night April 10th with the 30-minute rule beginning at 11:00pm eastern time.
This auction features another amazing array of sports and non-sports items that caters to every level of collector and investor. Whether you only want to spend a few hundred dollars or several thousand dollars, our selection of quality items has a little something for just about everyone. This auction is headlined by the first installment of an incredible Baltimore Area Collection from long time collector Robert Franklin.
Highlights of his collection include: a 1970 Baltimore Orioles World Series Championship ring; several tremendous game used pieces from the Orioles, Colts and University of Maryland (including a Len Bias warm up jacket); turn-of-the-century pins and publications from the Championship Orioles; vintage cards and cabinets, bobbing head dolls, awards and autographs.
Vintage card collectors will enjoy an abundance of pre-and-post war rarities including professionally graded and raw examples of cards from a variety of designations, including Cobb’s, Ruth’s, Gehrig’s, Mathewson’s and more; a number of graded and ungraded tobacco and candy cards offered as singles and in lots, and much more.
The post-war collection is substantial as well with a large number of singles, lots, complete and near sets from 1948-1973; Hall of Fame rookie cards including two different Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps and a 1951 Bowman Rookie card; Other Hall of Fame rookies included are Aaron, Musial, Koufax, Clemente, Rose, Ryan and many more. Additional highlights include a scarce 1968 Topps 3-D Brooks Robinson Prototype (highest graded in the hobby); a Brooks Robinson PSA 9 rookie; a 1980 Charlotte Orioles Blue Border Cal Ripken Minor League card and much more. As always, we also present a plethora of wonderful “shoebox” collections (always a crowd favorite).
This particular Huggins and Scott Auction has an unusually large number of autographed lots including baseballs, bats, lithographs, photographs and others consigned by collectors from all across the country. Highlights include: signed baseballs with Ruth, Maris, Mantle, team balls from the 20s-80s and more. Loads of autographed flats including Ruth, Martin Dihigo, Miller Huggins, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, Alex Pompez, Foxx, Jackie Robinson, Maris, a period signed Ted Williams 1935 High School Yearbook and many others.
