Huggins and Scott’s third Masterpiece Auction of 2014 begins on Monday June 2nd with the bidding closing on Thursday night June 12th with the 30-minute rule beginning at 11:00pm eastern time.
This auction features another amazing array of sports and non-sports items that caters to every level of collector and investor. Whether you only want to spend a few hundred dollars or several thousand dollars, our selection of quality items has a little something for just about everyone. This auction is headlined by multiple Babe Ruth autographs, an incredible assortment of high grade vintage publications and the second installment of the Baltimore area collection from long time collector, Robert Franklin.
Highlights of his collection include: a 1956 Orioles game-used road jersey; several tremendous game used pieces from the Orioles, Colts (including a Gene “Big Daddy” Lipscomb game-used cleat) and University of Maryland; team-signed Baltimore Bullets basketballs; vintage cards, bobbing head dolls, awards and autographs. Vintage card collectors will enjoy an abundance of pre-and-post war rarities including professionally graded and raw examples of cards from a variety of designations, including Cobb’s, Ruth’s, Gehrig’s, Mathewson’s and more; a number of graded and ungraded tobacco and candy cards offered as singles and in lots, and much more. Highlights include a rare Cuban 1931 Doble Aguila with Martin Dihigo (SGC 45); and several very attractive T206’s including a Factory 42 Red Portrait Ty Cobb.
The post-war collection is substantial as well with a large number of singles, lots, complete and near sets from 1948-1973; Hall of Fame rookie cards including three different Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps and a 1951 Bowman Willie Mays Rookie card (PSA 7). Additional highlights include a couple of complete Esskay Meats Orioles boxes; a scarce 1980 Charlotte Orioles Orange Border Cal Ripken Minor League card; a 1990 Topps George Bush Glossy White House version (BGS 8.5) and much more. As always, we also present a plethora of wonderful “shoebox” collections (always a crowd favorite).
This particular Huggins and Scott Auction has an unusually large number of autographed items with multiple Babe Ruth autographed items including baseballs and flats and others consigned by collectors from all across the country. Highlights include: 1927 and 1929 New York Yankees team-signed baseballs; single-signed balls from Ruth, Wagner, Jackie Robinson, Roger Maris and a stunning dual-signed Ty Cobb/Stan Musial ball. Loads of autographed flats including a 1944 Ruth NBC contract, a beautiful single-signed Ruth photograph, an attractive Roberto Clemente signed 1967 Dexter Press premium, and many others.
Staying in the memorabilia category, we are pleased to offer one of the most impressive array of high grade publications we’ve ever seen (many of which have never been opened) including World Series, All-Star Game, Yearbooks, Media Guides and Game Programs from all four major sports and many more. Additional items include a very scarce original large-format 1924 World Series Game 7 photograph; several Don Wingfield original photos and a 1920s John Beckwith Baltimore Black Sox Studio photo. The final lot in the auction catalog should create a “humm” – it’s a 2005 Ford Mustang Convertible, painted with Yankee pinstripes and numbered #42/60 as a limited edition series tribute to Mariano Rivera, signed 6-times by the future Hall of Famer (oh, and it only has 2700 miles on it).
Our game-used section in this auction includes a 1968 Pete Rose All-Star bat, a LeBron James St. Vincent High School uniform, game-used and signed shoes from LeBron, John Wall, Gary Payton and more; a 1968 New York Yankees Jim Bouton jersey; a 2003 Jason Garrett game-used NY Giants jersey and more.
If you don’t collect baseball items, we have a terrific selection of some high end pieces from the other sports including a wonderful selection of football, basketball and hockey sets and near sets; Otto Graham’s 1955 Cleveland Brown’s final season contract; a group of highest and only graded 1950-51 Washington Capitols 7-Up Basketball cards; and loads more.
If Non-Sports cards, coins/currency, comics, Americana or Political collecting is your cup of tea, we are offering a nice selection including turn-of-the-century high grade coins; a few $1000 and $500 bills from the 1930s; and more.
